Crew FAQ

Do I have to pay to use Rooster?

Nope. Rooster will always be free for crew. No fees. No sneaky subscriptions. Just good gigs.

How do I make a good video?

Keep it short (30–40 seconds), clear, and confident. Say your name, your role, your experience, and something that shows who you are. No need for drone shots — just you, looking tidy and sounding switched on.

What should I wear?

Not a singlet. Think clean tee or something sharp. Look like someone a Captain would want to hire — not someone they’d have to wake up.

Where should I film it?

Somewhere quiet, bright, and clean. A tidy cabin, a quiet deck, or even a clean corner of your flat. If it feels like a good reflection of you, it probably is.

Do I still need a CV if I have a video?

Yes. The video gets their attention. The CV seals the deal.

What if I’m green?

That’s fine. Everyone starts somewhere. Just be upfront about your experience (or lack of it), show you're eager to learn, and bring a good attitude.

How do I get noticed by boats?

Upload a clean CV, a sharp video, and stay active. Keep your availability up to date, respond when we message, and please don’t ghost us. Trust us, we notice.

Can I apply for jobs on the site?

Yes — once your profile and video are live, you can apply with one click.

Should I keep following up every day?

No need. If you're active, responsive, and have a solid profile, you're already on our radar. Enthusiasm is great. Desperation... less so.

What if my documents are about to expire?

Update them now. No boat wants to chase crew for paperwork. And we won't send you to one if you're not ready.
